Tomsdad, should have gone into the museum, that is a memorial. Defy anyone not to have a tear in their eye at some is the things and images in there.
Talked to a guide who asked if anyone in London was talking to someone in the towers and the line went dead please contact the museum with a name as families are still trying to find out last moments of their loved ones

Re: 9 11 Who thread
The year before I was working at Aon Romford. Didn't know any of them personally but through email etc but they lost a lot on their floor that day. Well all of them.

Re: 9 11 Who thread
ICAP only lost one member of staff that day as we had an office in the first tower. The woman who sadly died had a relative visiting her and she had taken them up to the observation deck that morning as ICAP were on the 24th and 25th floor so everyone else got out safely.

Jim... my MATE was working at ICAP on that day and was actually speaking to a yank on a trading desk when the 1st tower got hit...

Re: 9 11 Who thread
Was working at ICAP at the time and watched the whole thing unfold on all the TV's on the trading floor.

Tried to call a contact at Credit Agricole in NYC towards the end of the day to reconcile the trades for the day, as i did everyday, and couldn't get through. Called the London office obviously asking if they had managed to speak to the NYC office to be told they were high up in the second tower and as far as they knew they had lost most of their staff. Sent shivers through me knowing the guys i spoke to daily were no longer alive.

The 7/7 thread was quite memorable too. As with the 11/9 thread you found out more on here than the news outlets at the time. Would mind seeing that thread too.

Re: 9 11 Who thread
I was working for the New World Order comms department attached to the bbc as a mission coordinator, everything went smoothly except when I got the time line for the collapse of building 7 confused and fed the bbc New York correspondent Jane Standley the information early by mistake.

We all laugh about it now.

Re: 9 11 Who thread
I was working as a web developer for a news organisation and we had tellys all over the office so I watched the whole thing unfold live while frantically making sure our web sites didn't fall over in a heap. I remember that the week before some pillock in a paraglider had got himself tangled up in the statue of liberty and I, at first, thought it was something similar until the second plane hit. That was and still is the most shocking thing I've ever seen on live TV.

Re: 9 11 Who thread
Falling man. Was one of the most moving documentaries I've seen.

Turned on the tv that day for background noise whilst working from home and watched it all unfold. Memorised then for the next 12 hours. Very sad day and like others on here thought I was watching a movie.

Re: 9 11 Who thread
Turned on the TV as I was getting ready to go to my 9:00 Poli Sci : International Relations - Middle East seminar.

Never went back to it.

Basically told me no one in the field knows anything.

Re: 9 11 Who thread
I agree it would be interesting to see the thread again and see my posts.

I remember I was putting up spotlights in the kitchen of my Kensington pad as I was between contracts. My agenbt called me to tell me what was going on. Switched on CNN. I then went to the hotel bar of the Holiday Inn Gloucester Road as its always full of yanks. Place was crowded, people crying all the big screens.

What was disturbing for me is the US parents were turning up and my kids Primary School taking their kids out of class. My little'us didn't know what was going on and got upset. Typical panic.

Also the 3rd Jet was definately shot down. When I frist saw the report live on CNN they said the front of the plane was found long distance from the fusilage which is evidence it was shot down in mid air. That was live and never mentioned since and supressed.

Pretty much the same here - woke up in the middle of the night with my telly still on, and figured it was some sort of disaster movie, but it looked a little too realistic. Couldn't get back to sleep after realising it was no movie

Re: 9 11 Who thread
Was in New York a couple of weeks ago and went along to ground zero. I didn't really fill anything considering what had happened there. It didn't feel like a memorial, where as, when I went to the Dakota Building, even without any plaque or sign, felt quite sad at such a waste of life.
I think that says more about me then the locations, actually felt guilty for having both those different feelings.

Must be me!
